Transition
WAB recognizes that in addition to the rigor of a demanding academic
curriculum and the pressures associated with college applications
and living overseas, High School aged students undergo a continuation
of the physical, emotional, psychological, social, moral and intellectual
developments which began during Middle School.
For many of our students being in China also requires a transition
to a new country, a new culture, and for many, a new language.
WAB recognizes the fundamental importance of carefully supporting
our students through this time of transition. Successful transitional
support cannot be a one-off, stand-alone activity, but should occur
in various forms throughout the school year.
Transition Goals from Middle School to High School include:
• Making the transition experience authentic;
• Looking at the High School including IB Diploma Program, College Counseling
and HS Course offerings;
• Information sharing between and dialogue of Grade 8 and 9 teachers;
• Information sharing with new High School students and parents;
• "Graduation" celebration as "rite of passage".
WAB aims to support transition through a range of activities,
including a comprehensive new student orientation program, grade
level transition days and parent workshops. Examples of WAB Middle
School/Whole School activities that include transition information
