Field trips are an integral part of fulfilling WAB’s programs
which emphasize learning about the language and culture of China.
In addition to subject specific day trips, Middle School students
participate in a one-week China Studies Field Trip each year.
The
trips provide opportunities for students to apply what they have
learned within school in a real life situation. The trips include
curriculum-focused activities, Chinese Culture introduction and
also service opportunities. WAB aims to create service opportunities
which are meaningful and diverse enough for all students to engage
positively within the local community. The trips include visits
to World Heritage sites in China.
Student participation in these field trips is compulsory and is
paid for by the school.
Aims of the China Studies Field Trips
• Enhance the school curriculum by providing opportunities to apply knowledge
gained in the classroom in “real” situations
• Provide an opportunity to develop responsibility in preparing for one’s
own requirements for one week
• Broaden the students’ experience of China and to improve the students’ understanding
and awareness of Chinese culture, geography and history
• Perform community service
• Foster a sense of community and sharing
• Foster both teacher-student and student-student relationships and to
provide an opportunity for sharing companionship and support within
an environment different from daily school life
• Develop environmental and cultural awareness
• Create and nurture a love of outdoor life and outdoor activities and
to develop the necessary skills to enjoy such activities
• Most importantly, the staff will endeavour to ensure that each student
has fun, is happy and feels the enjoyment that comes with exploring new environments,
being involved in new activities and being part of a secure, “alternative
family” .
Below are examples of previous China Studies field trips:
