WAB AWARDED A MODEL SCHOOL OF OLYMPIC EDUCATION!
The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX
Olympiad this week announced that WAB has been awarded
the honor of Model School of Olympic Education!
WAB will join 200 schools from Beijing in organizing
various educational activities, weaving the Olympic spirit
through the variety of curriculum, cultural, and community
activities at WAB. The award affords WAB a unique opportunity
to present a ‘window on the Olympics’ to
both the Chinese and international communities.
WAB’s role as an Model School of Olympic Education
will enable us to demonstrate how an important theme
like the Olympics can be explored in a meaningful way
through an international curriculum. As an event, the
Olympics goes far beyond sporting endeavors alone. Studying
the cultural, economic and political dimensions of the
Olympics provides students with a rich context for authentic
inquiry. In addition, the award will enable WAB to apply
and develop our core values.
The core planning team has already identified a wide
variety of opportunities for students, staff and the
broader WAB community to engage with the ideals of the
Olympics, through the PE curriculum, extracurricular
programs, and through community and service initiatives,
which enrich life and learning within the school. A significant
aspect of the role will be the development of joint activities
with national schools in Beijing.
As the countdown to the Olympic Games gathers pace,
there will be many opportunities for the community to
be involved. Information and events will be regularly
posted on the WAB website, and a giant Olympics clock
will be located on the WAB campus - a special feature
of our new connection to the Games!
WAB will be officially recognized at the Model School
of Olympic Education Award Ceremony by the Beijing Organizing
Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, Ministry
of Education, China and The People’s Government
of Beijing Municipality on Wednesday May 31. Representatives
from 200 schools will attend the ceremony, and WAB students
will give a special performance.
