WAB Olympic Dream Series: The Biathlon and Triathlon
Over 500 competitors pushed their bodies to the limit last
Saturday in the first event of WAB’s Olympic Dream Series. The day had all the atmosphere of a real Olympic event, with Olympic flags unfurling, hearts thumping, bodies straining, and excited crowds cheering.
All of the children, ranging in age from 6 to 60, who
ran, swam, and biked were winners. Those who placed first,
second and third took their places on WAB’s own model Olympic podium to receive their Olympic Dream Series medals.
Applause to all competitors, marshals, volunteers, and
fans who made this event a success! While WAB athletes
were coursing the model Olympic route outside the ES,
professional athletes from around the globe were in Beijing
testing the official triathlon route for the Beijing
Games 2008.
The trial competition drew world champion
Brad Kahlefedlt of Australia, who assessed the Beijing
course as “one of the most ‘amazing and professional’ routes in the world,” according
to The China Daily. The official Beijing Games triathlon
course covers 55.5 km, which runs through the Ming Tombs
just north of the city.
