MS Sports Fest 2007
WAB is very proud to have been designated an "Olympic
Model School" as we approach the Beijing 2008
Olympic Games. As such, we have committed to sharing
the Olympic ideal of "One World, One Dream".
Across the school, we are arranging "Olympic Dream
Series" activities, of which our new-look "Middle
School Sportsfest" is one of the MS highlights.
As part of the "Olympic Dream Series", this
year we have also initiated a "House System" in
Middle School - a system where students are members of
mixed-grade (G6 8) teams. Five teams, each symbolised
by one of the transition colours of the Olympic rings.
Our goal is to develop team spirit and responsibility,
and greater interaction, collaboration and cooperation
between students and across grade-levels. There have
been many opportunities for students to work together
with their house teams this year - academic, sporting
and personal/social.
This year's "Middle School Sportsfest" has
been carefully planned to take the best from our previous
sports day programmes, and expand it to provide maximum
opportunity for all students to be actively involved
in the day, to challenge and further develop their collaborative
skills and to foster team spirit. As the Olympic games
continue to expand beyond traditional track and field
events to include a greater number of team sports and
demonstration sports, we have also broadened our scope
for "MS
Sportsfest".
This year's "Sportsfest" programme involved
all students participating in some track events, some
team sports, and some fun team challenges - it was
a great success. In previous years, students have participated
in a couple of events and spent most of the day as
a spectator. Sportsfest involved full participation
by all MS students all day. Athletic excellence was
celebrated, as was the importance of participation
for health and well-being for all students, as was
teamwork, team spirit and fun.
The opportunity for our strong athletes to practice,
further develop and challenge themselves and participate
in competition is also encouraged. Last season, the after
school WABX activities included the Track & Field
team who are preparing to participate in the ISAC Track & Field
event this weekend.
A special thank you to Fiona Moss, Haje Halabi, Illio
Koxhioni, Alison Coutts and all the Sportsfest Planning
Committee for all of their hard work in organizing
this fantastic opportunity for our students. |
