WAB Students Film US
Olympic Taekwondo Teamn at World Championships
Last week, three WAB students embraced an extraordinary
opportunity from the US Olympic Taekwondo team to film
'Team America' as they competed in the Taekwondo World
Championships in Beijing.
Colin Zhang and Gabriel So (Grade 6) and Joshua Okada
(Grade 4) worked directly with film crews, gaining
hands-on experience in documenting a major sporting
event.
The US Olympic coaches and athletes will use the footage
shot by WAB students to study their own performance
and to assess their opponents, as well as to analyze
the venue - the Changping Gymnasium, which is the
official Taekwondo venue for the Beijing Games.
Filming 'Team USA' was hard work, but Colin, the only
student to film all five days of the event, thrived
on the opportunity.
"The hardest part of the job," Colin reported, "was
operating five cameras at the same time. But I was
using tripods so it was manageable."
The students look forward to catching the American
team in action again next summer during the Beijing
Games.
