WAB Students to Film Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai
Over the October holiday, a group of around 15 WAB students will join students from Fudan University (Shanghai), the University of North Carolina (US) and four other Shanghai Universities to film and produce a webcast of the Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai.
This showcase event marks the first time the Special Olympics World Summer Games will be in Asia as well as the first time that any Special Olympics World Games will be held in China. Over 7,200 athletes from more than 163 countries; 50,000 volunteers; 3,500 event officials; thousands of families, friends, 1,500 journalists from every continent and over one million spectators will all attend the Games which will be broadcast around the world. The Games promise to be one of the most memorable events in the history of China.
For the first time in Special Olympics history, the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games will offer daily video and audio streaming of the events. Envision family members from a small village in Kenya sitting in an internet café or in New York City where a proud father shows business colleagues his son's gold medal winning performance on his cellular phone. This concept will be offered to families, friends, supporters and fans around the world so that they may share in the excitement, achievement and joy of each of the more than 7,200 athletes competing in the World Games.
Daily video highlights for each sport will be created as well as video on demand option for sports events/races and awards ceremonies conducted at the Games – more than 1500 hours of available and unprecedented coverage made available to family, friends and supporters of athletes competing in the Games. For the first time, parents will be able to search their athlete and see his/her profile, view their march in the Opening Ceremony, watch their competitive event and/or gain a sense of pride as their son/daughter receive recognition at the awards ceremony. This will all be made possible through technology and the generosity of supporters and donors of the Capturing Every Moment Webcast Project.
