On Tuesday October
24, MSHS students celebrated diversity and reflected on global
issues in recognition of WAB’s International Day. The
major theme running through this celebration was the message
that “youth can make a difference” towards realizing
the United Nation’s Millennium Goals. The assembly comprised
students presenting various forms of artistic expression created
in response to the UN’s goals, including a Greek chorus,
skits, audio-visual presentations and special music from the
MSHS orchestra and bands. Two-time Olympic speed skating champion
Yang Yang also spoke about the UN’s goals and the Olympics,
focusing on how each organization stressed the importance
of fairplay, respect and teamwork.
That afternoon, MS and HS students took a more in-depth look
at various global issues in workshops led by MUN, Roots and
Shoots, Habitat for Humanity and others, and closed the day
with a period of reflection on how they can personally help
realize an improved world. |
