The PTA is involved in numerous
activities throughout the school year. Ongoing or once per year
events offer a number of ways to be involved in the school community.
Book Fair and Visiting
Author/Illustrator
In conjunction with the school,
the PTA sponsors a visiting author or illustrator to spend one week
working with all students at WAB to promote reading and writing
skills. The PTA also organizes a Book Fair, where students and parents
can purchase a wide variety of English language books.
The Charity Committee coordinates
a wide range of programs aimed at assisting the vast population
of impoverished people living in China. Programs include a “Small
Change Appeal” to sponsor the education of rural children,
the “Angel” program which raises money to pay for food
and heating fuel for the elderly and numerous other campaigns that
collect and distribute food, clothing, housing and school supplies
to the needy. Volunteers also work directly with orphanages and
special needs children.
Each May, the PTA sponsors a carnival
like day of fun for the WAB community. While the theme varies each
year, one thing remains the same—it’s always a day of
fun for the whole family. Games, sports challenges, entertainment
from the school community, and good food combine to make this a
memorable event for everyone.
Food of the World
Throughout the year a group of parents demonstrate how to prepare their favourite food and others taste it.
NEW! German Culture & Speaking Group
Herzlich Willkommen to all German speakers.
A German speaking group for mothers and children in ECC/ES will get together to prepare and celebrate various German Fetes/Festivals throughout the year.
We will read stories, do craftwork, sing, bake and celebrate together. If you speak German, have children up to Grade 4 and want to share a moment of German culture, please join us at our first planning meeting on Wednesday October 17 at 8.45 am in the ES Lotus Louge.
Marion Spahr is German and is volunteering to coordinate this group. Contributions to cover the costs of material will be required as needed.

Holiday Bazaar (Saturday 24 November 2007)
The PTA Charity Bazaar is now a staple of the WAB community and beyond. This event includes a wide range of handicraft vendors,
charitable organizations and a tempting selection of international
foods. The PTA also organizes a second hand stall for children’s
toys and books and a bake sale. Proceeds from this event benefit
PTA charity and general use funds. Many people from all over Beijing look forward to attending the bazaar and seeing what treasures are on display, while at the same time helping charities throughout China. This year's Bazaar is scheduled for Saturday November 24.
International Day Lunch
One day in the Autumn, parents and children across the school bring a national dish for all to taste. Students wear their national dress or colours.
Room Parents
The PTA seeks parent volunteers
to serve as a ‘Room Parent’ for each class or grade
level. In the Elementary School, Room Parents typically organize
activities such as class parties, cooking lessons or a coffee morning
for parents to meet one another. In the Middle and High Schools,
Grade Parents typically help to facilitate communication between
parents and the school and host coffee mornings.
Social Events
Several social events are organized
by the PTA throughout the year. The highlight is an afternoon of
ice-skating on the moat at The Forbidden City in January when conditions permit, which is great fun
for kids and adults alike. Pizza and movie parties after school
for the kids and evening adult-only social gatherings are also examples
of the activities planned by the PTA.
Staff Appreciation Day
One Day in the Spring, families bake for the entire school Staff and provide goodies for their morning break
Welcome Back Coffee and Tea: September
An opportunity to meet new and returning parents to WAB and to find out about all the activities offered throughout the year and how to get involved.
