Health Services

Health Services

Welcome to WABs Health Services! We are here to work with you and your children to keep them safe and healthy! WAB has three nurses in two Clinics - one in the Elementary Center and the other two in the Middle and High School Center.

The Clinics treat minor injuries, perform first aid, administer medications, perform health screenings and maintain students' health records.

PROCEDURES

Illness

It is important for parents to keep children at home if they are sick. WAB maintains a "Fever Free" environment and requires all students not to attend school if they have a temperature of over 37.5 degrees Celsius. By following this protocol we are able to maintain a healthy environment for all and minimize flu infections. In light of the recent SARS alert in Asia it is recommended that all children have flu shots for the coming winter.

Parents should advise the school of the reasons for all absences from school including the illness. This can be done by phoning the Clinic or sending a note for the teachers the next day. In the event of extended illness where the student will be absent for a number of days, parents are requested to contact the Clinic.

If your child contracts a contagious condition, such as chickenpox, please do let us know. If your child has a condition such as asthma or has had a severe allergic reaction in the past, please stop by to talk with the nurse about these or any other concerns. Remember too you can call the Clinic if you are unsure whether they should come to school or about any other medical issues related to your child.

Injury

The nurse will call parents in the event of minor injuries that you should be aware of, or when a student needs to go home due to illness or injury. In the event of a serious injury or illness, the nurse will contact the parents or guardian so the child can be transported to a hospital for further attention; if necessary, the nurse or designated person will accompany the student to the facility and meet the parent there.

Medication At School

If your child needs medication during school hours, please fill the Permission to Administer Medicine - form or send a note with the child`s name, reason to give medicine, dosage, time and for how many days. All medicines must be in their original container, clearly labelled in English. For Prescription Medication please provide a copy of your Doctors prescription. A few over-the counter medications (i.e. Panadol, Ibuprofen) are available and can be given if parental permission is on file.

Medical Records

It is very important that the school nurses have complete, updated medical records for all students. Please complete and submit the WAB medical questionnaire to the Clinics and keep us updated of any new conditions or immunizations. Also, be sure to keep the school updated with work, home and mobile numbers of parents and of your emergency contact persons (Health/emergency procedures profile & Emergency preparedness consent form).
