Host for a Day: Home is Where WAB is

Middle School student Oscar Landgren studied at Western Academy of Beijing for nearly six years before he moved to Tokyo International School in 2014. Oscar enjoyed his new school, but WAB was still close to his heart. With fond memories of his time at our school carried with him on the streets of Tokyo, Oscar never stopped looking for opportunities to come back for a visit.

On one beautiful Beijing autumn day, Middle School Principal Marina Frias-Gavidia received an email from Mike Izzar, who was a former International School of Beijing teacher in the 90s and now worked at Tokyo International School. TIS was planning to come to Beijing for their school trip in October.

"Can we come to visit WAB?" Mike asked. Little did Marina know that it was Oscar behind this request. Not only did Oscar want to share his wonderful memories with TIS teachers and classmates, but he believed that it would be an excellent example of an international school for them to experience.

On October 19, 2016, Oscar proudly showed off his "home school" to a group of 20 TIS grade 8 students and 4 staff. They were impressed with WAB school facilities and the hospitality they were shown in their host classes during their stay.

When it was time to leave, Oscar told us that it felt great to be back at WAB and share such a special place to him with his classmates.

"I would love to come back to spend more time with my friends at WAB," Oscar said.
