FLoW21: The Journey Continues

This summer marks the end of Phase 1 of FLoW21 – Beliefs and Culture.

Work related to FLoW21 during the 2017-18 school year was guided by three main fiats:

  • Professional Learning
  • Research and Data Collection
  • FLoW21 Learning Experience

We are proud of the work our faculty, staff, students, and parents have done to accomplish these essential parts of building the foundation of FLoW21. You can read about some of the work that took place on our regularly updated FLoW21 blog, including a story about our Grade 7 students developing their own timetables for the entire month of March, as well as some of the research and global stories that have helped guide our decision-making.

Following two years of intense community engagement, conversation, and consensus building, we are excited to be moving on to the next phase of FLoW21 – Systems and Structures. It's time to start putting our thinking and conversation into action.

As part of this next stage, you will start to see more and more opportunities for students to chart their own learning under the expert guidance of their teachers and mentors. New tools in individualized assessment, tied to international education standards, will ensure we do not compromise on learning skills and facts, even while our students develop more autonomy and confidence in charting their future as life-long learners. In addition, design consultants have visited WAB to meet with staff and students to conceptualize how our campus and buildings could look in the future to support new opportunities for learning. This will be a multi-year project to adapt WAB spaces to achieve our learning goals, further enhance our top-notch facilities, and maintain our distinct China-inspired character.

The FLoW21 Steering Committee and sub-committees are reinventing themselves to meet the needs of Phase 2.
