WAB Gains Approval to Offer Danish National Exams

Danish students at WAB now have the unique opportunity in Beijing to take the national Grade 9 exams which mark the end of Danish schooling, Folkeskolen.

Approved by the Danish Ministry of Education, it is a great honor for WAB to be the first school in Beijing to gain permission to host these important examinations. The certificate students earn from passing the test opens up opportunities for further education in Denmark, where Danish is often required for university admissions.

"Living abroad provides challenges, and mother tongue learning poses one of the biggest for many expat families," said Tina Dige Kjaergaard, Chair of the WAB Board of Trustees and head of the Danish School. "With this approval, the Danish School in Beijing and WAB become even stronger partners for Danish companies and expat families living in Beijing."

WAB's Danish Mother Tongue Language program was established in 2004, allowing students to continue studying in their native language and follow the national curriculum. The program has always been led by Danish-certified teachers, and this approval adds to the comprehensive service WAB programs strive to offer our expat families.

Western Academy of Beijing has a tradition of serving the needs of Beijing's diverse expatriate community. The school's extensive mother tongue languages program offers courses in Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, German, Japanese and Swedish.
