Excitement for all at WABX to the MAX

The Western Academy of Beijing Tigers earned six championships over the WABX to the MAX weekend. Around the corner from Tiger Field, WAB dancers and musicians kept the vibe alive at Jazz Fest with energetic, impressive performances.

On Tiger Field, the boys rugby team ran over its competition en route to an overall tournament victory. In the Tiger l'Air dome, the Tigers' boys and girls tennis teams were both champions and combined to earn the overall title. In the gym, WAB took home the Division1 and Division 2 Girls Volleyball Championships.

But the weekend is more than just about sports. Students' artistic excellence was on display, as well, at Jazz Fest.

"I don't know of any similar school festival elsewhere of this scale," said Martin Halpin, WAB's Athletic and Activities Director. "This is a very unique festival, as it celebrates both the Arts and Sports and brings students together."

More than 500 international high school students came to Beijing from all over the region to participate in rugby, swimming, tennis, volleyball, dance and music. That gives these young people the chance to connect with new friends from different backgrounds – especially because of WAB's homestay program.

"Students and host families can all learn from each other," Halpin said, "making connections that further enrich the experience for all."

As it goes at WAB, this massive event does not mean the end to sports and activities events on the school's calendar. Make sure to check out China Cup Tennis going on this weekend in the Tiger l'Air. And root on WAB's baseball teams as they compete for baseball's China Cup at International School of Beijing.
