Grade 4 students at Western Academy of Beijing designed, built and raced their own boats as part of a unit about structures. Collaborating in teams,students applied their knowledge of buoyancy, water displacement and surface area to create designs then build their boats. The teams then put their boats to the test, racing to the finish line against their classmates. For some teams, the race went swimmingly, while others were left fishing for new ideas.
