The student-run Auction for Change is set for June 19.
Hosted at the luxurious Huabin Tianxing Feiba Club (华彬天星飞吧俱乐部), the student leaders of this club invite WAB’s extended community to their annual silent auction in support of social causes close to their hearts.
This year, the groups is collaborating with Educating Girls in Rural China (EGRC). Proceeds from the artwork sold will fund tuition for 2 or 3 young women, as well as female hygiene products and a curriculum designed to teach young women about hygiene and sex education.
“I took on the leadership role as I wanted to lead fellow students and make a real impact on my community regarding the topic of female hygiene,” said Grade 11 student Rachel Y. “My parents taught me to be aware of the social impacts you make from a very young age. By supporting the education and female hygiene of the students in rural China, I hope I can make a small difference to the future paths of these students and inspire more people to be proactive.”

Founded in 2018, auction for change is an organization that dedicates its service and donates its proceeds to a different cause each year. Currently run by Rachel and her classmates Angela L. and Max P., the group receives donations in the form of artwork from WAB students, as well as friends and parents.
In previous years, the group has raised several thousand reminbi to install water heaters in the homes of aging veterans.
Throughout the school year, the group’s finance team organizes small fundraisers to contribute to the final auction, while the communications team works to develop a relationship with the girls and creates activities for to learn about each other.
