WAB Community Provides Scholarships through Hong Bao Campaign

The WAB community has come together to continue our school’s legacy of providing scholarships to young women in rural China.

WAB’s parent-run Charity Link launched the Hong Bao campaign after the Spring Festival, encouraging families to celebrate the Year of the Ox by donating money in traditional red envelopes to support Educating Girls of Rural China (EGRC). For years, WAB has supported the charity organization in order to help increase access to education.

The Hong Bao drive, which raised more than 56,000RMB toward scholarships, builds on years of WAB fundraising efforts for the cause, including the Small Change Appeal and Piggy Bank Campaign.

“I would like to thank you and congratulate you on your recent successful fundraising event,” EGRC Founder Ching Tien said in a message to the WAB community. “I believe educating women is a fundamental way to lift people out of poverty and build better societies. In the past seven years the WAB community has consistently provided funding to EGRC and truly made a difference on the lives of rural girls.”

There are several WAB events on the horizon aimed at achieving our community’s annual goal to raise 120,000RMB, which is enough to provide tuition for 20 young women. This Friday, April 9, WAB Middle School students are hosting a charity concert to contribute to the fundraising efforts. Even if you’re not on campus to attend, you can tune into the WAB livestream and contribute to the efforts.

“We would like to thank the WAB community for their support and generosity,” Charity Link Head Delphine Labille. “We are so grateful to be part of such amazing community who cares about others.”
