WAB Student Opens Exhibit in Beijing's Famed Art District

by Jing Jing Yang, Grade 10 World of Work Intern

Amidst the hubbub of Beijing’s 798 Art District, an exhibit opened by a WAB student celebrates the creativity of WAB students and commemorates Käthe Kollwitz’s legacy.

Grade 11 student Jennifer Zeng curated the exhibition, themed Complexity of Emotions, blending the work of her classmates and Kollwitz’s art. Käthe Kollwitz was a German artist who survived World Wars I and II and depicted its mark upon the people with virtuosity. The array of work put on display an inspired collection of emotion.

Though Jennifer’s first impression of Kollwitz’s work was at the age of 10 years old, the virtuosity of the artist in depicting emotion lingered in her memory. As part of her research project in International Baccalaureate Art and seeing a connection to her IB History course, Jennifer met her muse and extended her study into Kollwitz’s body of work.

Zeng has a passion for art curation and was interested in further exploring it as a career option.

This is an exciting step in Jennifer’s journey to future success. She is passionate about art history and plans to continue studying at university, with the goal of pursuing a career as an art gallery curator.

“It’s really unique and valuable to have this experience in high school,” Jennifer said. “My teachers at WAB were very supportive in helping me collect art submissions, and they helped make this possible.”

Jennifer’s exhibition is open until June 14, at 261 Cao Chang Di, Airport Side-Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing.
