WAB Welcomes Families for 2017-18 School Year

Welcome to Western Academy of Beijing 2017-18!

We are excited for another year of offering a distinctive, world-leading education to our students. Our teachers, staff and student ambassadors welcomed more than 250 new students and their parents from 33 countries to WAB this year. After last June saw the smallest group of students leaving WAB and Beijing in the past five years, we are happy to see all of these new faces.

The 2016-17 school year at WAB was a successful one for our students. We saw Middle School students taking top honors in global mathematics competitions, High Schoolers making a difference in the lives of senior citizens, and Elementary students launching campaigns for social justice. In addition, the Class of 2017 scored well above the global average on their IB Diploma exams and garnered acceptances to top universities worldwide.

Though summer holidays are an opportunity for us all to relax and re-energize, this year once again has seen an unprecedented amount of facilities work as we continue to maintain and enhance our outstanding campus and buildings. Many of our buildings are newly painted, roofs water-proofed, and restrooms, changing rooms, and other high-use areas refreshed with new surfaces, tile, and flooring. Our playgrounds also have new features including timber pathways and fresh paint. The biggest transformation, however, has been our promised renovation of our iconic Middle School. The innovative and environmentally friendly building is full of color and sunlight and features flexible and open learning spaces for our students and teachers. Read all about it here.

This year, we will see every teacher design learning experience based on the Future of Learning at WAB (FLoW21) targets. This will allow all students autonomy and choice over what they learn, how they will learn it and how they demonstrate that learning with the guidance of their teacher. Through on-going conversations with all stakeholders, we have seen that the learning experiences we craft and facilitate should be fine-tuned to prepare our students not just for the next stage of schooling, but in the kind of thinking and action that will help meet the needs of the world in the future. You can follow FLoW21 news and information on the FLoW21 blog at blogs.wab.edu/flow21.

So welcome to WAB and welcome back to WAB! We hope to see you at our annual I ❤️ WABCommunity Picnic and Middle School Grand Re-opening Ceremony on Saturday, August 26.
