Watch: WAB's Role in the Documentary Sweeping China's Theaters

WAB students were part of a documentary film that has been sweeping though China’s cinemas.

The Six is a documentary film investigating the untold story of the Chinese passengers who survived the sinking of The Titanic. WAB design students were recruited by the film’s lead researcher, Steven Schwankert, to plan and build a life-size model of the infamous ship’s lifeboats.

“Early in the project, we knew we needed to build a full-size replica of a Titanic lifeboat in order to solve one of our story's most important mysteries,” Steven said. “Knowing WAB's progressive approach to education, I thought it might be a good fit as an after-school activity, and I was 100 percent correct. Mark Trumpold and his band of boat builders helped us change history.”

You can join Steven on campus June 10 for an exclusive screening and Q&A session as part of WAB’s Distinguished Speaker Series.

Mark, a High School Design Technology teacher, founded the Titanic Lifeboat club and led the group of Middle and High School students, as well as workshop technicians and members of WAB’s facilities staff through the project. They began with research, eventually uncovering the lifeboats’ original designs, and then spent a year and a half on construction.

“Given the opportunity to be involved in a professionally screened 'real-life' historical documentary increases students’ passion for and better understanding of the world and the importance of historical events,” Mark said. “The students had the chance to apply their communication, research, personal, and, of course, design technology skills ‘real-life’ project and purpose.”

WAB’s exclusive screening is your chance to uncover the mystery of The Six and learn more about the role WAB played in the investigation.

“Our story wouldn't have been the same without the WAB students and without WAB's support and vision for a project like ours,” Steven said.
