Teacher Compensation and Benefits
The Western Academy of Beijing offers remuneration that is highly competitive in the international market, and regularly reviews its compensation and benefits package to stay competitive. Salary is paid in local Chinese currency (RMB) and can be converted to most major currencies and transferred out of China after completing the necessary bank paperwork.
Teachers are paid according to their years of teaching experience on a 16-step Teacher's Salary Scale.

WAB provides a comprehensive benefits package for our teachers. Both Local Foreign Hire and Overseas Foreign Hire Teachers receive the following benefits when working at WAB:
- Chinese income tax
- Visa, residence permit and foreign expert certificate
- International health insurance
- Personal accident and disability insurance
- Professional development
- HHO benefits according to the HHO Benefits Guidelines to cover housing, R&R and home leave
Overseas Foreign Hire Teachers will be provided with the following one-time benefits in support of their relocation to Beijing:
- Relocation airfare
- Settling-In allowance
The following benefits will also be extended to an Overseas Foreign Hire Teacher:
- Child Dependent tuition at WAB
- Spouse and/or Child Dependent benefits
Please note: Only a teacher’s legal and accompanying spouse and child (under 18 years old), whose names are stated in the employment contract, will be considered as “contractual dependents” and therefore be be eligible for dependent benefits.
